A couple of years ago I moved to Lancashire. Personal reasons brought me here and I won’t go into all of that, but what I will say is that it turned out to be one of the best things that ever happened to me, both personally and professionally.
I’m Phil Collins, CEO of Defiant SEO, and I’m writing this from our base in Bacup. This isn’t a business update as such. It’s more of a thank you to a part of the world that took me in, kept me busy and reminded me why I got into this game in the first place.
Lancashire just gets it
I did not move here with a masterplan. Life pointed me north and I followed. But what I found when I arrived was something genuinely brilliant. Lancashire is full of hardworking people running proper businesses, people who care about what they do and take real pride in it. The only thing a lot of them are missing is being visible online.
That is where we come in.

One of the highlights since settling here has been becoming Vice President of BNI Kudo’s In Burnley. If you haven’t come across BNI before, it’s a referral networking organisation and the Burnley chapter is something I’m genuinely proud to be part of.
Every week I’m sat in a room with local business owners, tradespeople and professionals who are absolutely cracking at what they do. Being VP means I get to help lead that room and make sure the right people are in front of the right contacts. That kind of connection is what builds a local economy and honestly, it’s what makes this community fantastic.
It’s the same thinking behind good SEO really. You don’t just want any traffic. You want the right people landing on your site because they are already looking for exactly what you offer. BNI Kudo’s gets that.
Making a difference across Lancashire
Since getting properly set up here, I’ve had the pleasure of working with some fantastic local businesses who deserve far more visibility than they’re getting online. Brilliant people doing brilliant things but not being found by the customers who need them we manged to team up with the best Fire Security Company has to offer, that’s not just me saying it Lancashire Red Rose says it aswell.
